Heathers
Heathers (1989)

IMDB rating: 7.30

Plot: Dear Diary: Veronica Sawyer is sick of being part of the Heathers, the most powerful clic of Westerberg High; making fun of Martha Dunnstock (”Dumptruck”), the fat girl, or doing some stupid polls is something she’ll never get used to. Meanwhile she meets JD, a cool rebel guy who wouldn’t mind shooting a gun at school just to make his point. Remington University’s party is where Veronica has to go as a Heather, and there’s where she gets her ultimatum as a Heather from Heather Chandler, the head of the Heathers. So Veronica and her lover JD “accidentally” kill Heather Chandler and manage to cover it up by making a suicide note. Will this be just the beginning of the assasination-turned-suicide serie of Westerberg High which nor the FBI, the CIA or the PTA would be able to stop? Or will Veronica be able to pull herself together and stop her psychotic lover from killing absolutely EVERYONE at school?

Consistent with his college thesis, Obama believes in and has implemented unilateral American disarmament?
in his "preliminary treaty" which circumvented the Senate ratification process prescribed and required by the Constitution (Article II S.2)–as usual the USC doesn’t matter to him…

BUT what do you think of the idea Obama has that ONLY the US should disarm, which will propel other nations to do the same? As in, set an example (I suppose–or it’s just a death wish, one or the other).

Obama sounding very much like Nixon said, "I AM NOT NAIVE." It backfired on Nixon, too.

The links you give are just some bloggers opinion.

The details of the disarmament agreement have not been finalized.

Everything I have read about the disarmament talks indicate that it will be BI-LATERAL.

Both the US and Russia have hundreds of nukes that are outdated and not service ready. Its probably going to be these that are disposed of – and they would have been disposed of even without an agreement.

In general, fewer nukes is a good think for all citizens on planet Earth.

Beowulf & Grendel

Posted by felixharding1976 on 17th March 2010

Beowulf & Grendel
Beowulf & Grendel (2005)

IMDB rating: 6.10

Plot: The blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior’s battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood – immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf’s willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll’s rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one – the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, which strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale.

i need a thesis statement?
i need a thesis statement about the comparison/contrast on the epic poem & movie Beowulf.
comparison:
Beowulf kills Grendel in both the poem & movie
contrast:
Beowulf doesn’t kill Grendel’s mother in the movie. He fools around with her & produces a son which is the dragon he kills towards the end of the movie.
King Hrothgar gave Beowulf everything he owns in the movie. The king commints suicide. Beowulf is now king.

The poem Beowulf and the movie Beowulf have many similarities and differences.

Where were the Palestinians in the 10th century BCE ?
A recent article on the newest archaeological findings in Israel proves that the Kingdom of Israel already existed in the 10th century BCE and that at least some of the biblical texts were written hundreds of years before the dates presented in current research.
I guess this proves the kingdom of Israel preceded the Arab presence in the area.
Here is the link to the article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/2010 0115/sc_livescience/biblepossiblywritten centuriesearliertextsuggests

The Palestinian people did not exist until 1967. According to Arab-American columnist Joseph Farah,
"Palestine has never existed – before or since – as an autonomous entity. It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire, and briefly by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their homeland. There was no language known as Palestinian. There was no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a Palestine governed by the Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc."

In his 1925 autobiography, Mein Kampf, Adolph Hitler wrote that people would assume that an outrageous lie must be true because no one would have the audacity to have made it up. Later, that propaganda technique evolved into: If a big lie is repeated enough times it will become widely accepted as truth.

This bit of Nazi propaganda is being used today by the Palestinians. Their Big Lie is preached from the pulpits of the mosques and in the classrooms of their madrasas — and more and more of the untutored masses are believing it.

What is the Palestinian Big Lie? Palestinian Authority Mufti Ikrama Sabri was quoted in the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam (November 22, 1997) as saying that the Western Wall is part of the Al-Aksa Mosque and the Jews have no connection with it. The same newspaper (July 18, 1997) reported that Hamad Yusef, head of the Institution for the Rejuvenation of the Palestinian Heritage, referred to the "false historical claim of the Jews in the holy city, a claim which they were unable to prove in all of the (archaeological) excavations conducted by foreign groups for the past hundred years."

In other words, the Jewish people have no historical connection with the Temple Mount, including the Western Wall, or with any part of old Jerusalem. No archaeological evidence has ever shown otherwise. So they claim.

A key element of Arab and anti-Zionist attacks on Israel is the notion that the Jewish presence in the country is a remnant of 19th century imperialism in which Europeans colonized and exploited parts of the third world. But far from being outsiders there, the Jewish ties date back 4,000 years to the very beginning of Jewish history recounted in the Bible and verified by much of the evidence of archeology that has been discovered.

Though the Romans expelled most of the Jewish population from the country, Jewish settlement continued without interruption throughout the last 2,000 years. In all this time, the Land of Israel remained a constant in thoughts and the hearts of Jews throughout the world, as it was remembered in their daily prayers and in their dreams.

The evidence of Jewish post-biblical presence is too voluminous to mention here, but it is interesting to mention three extant structures which prove a continuous Jewish presence in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City.

The Suffering Messiah……..?
While evangelizing, Christians often emphasize the terrible suffering of Jesus on the cross and say, "He DIED for you", as if this alone should move us to eternal gratitude and as if we are somehow personally responsible for his suffering. But is any of this really true? Did Jesus really die for us? Or, if he really was god, did he die in order to satisfy some petty, self-created, technical requirement?

Let’s say that I am a child. I create a bunch of little toys and bring them to life. I tell the toys, who are now humans, what my rules are. One of the little humans disobeys my rules. What if I now decide that I am going to have to create a hell for these little humans since they disobeyed me and what if I further decide that the only way I can accept, love, or care for these little humans is to get a baseball bat and insist that one of them crash it over my head. After insisting that a baseball bat be crashed over my own head, I then bring myself back to life in 3 days, inspire some little humans to write a book about what happened, disappear from sight, and insist that all humans from this point forward best acknowledge that I am "the fairest of them all" (sound like a familiar fairy tale?) else I will turn them into toads and torture them forever and ever.

To put it another way, what if after a child disobeyed, the parent of this child went out in the backyard, picked up a baseball bat, and bashed in his own skull, killing himself in the process? Should we then say, "Look how much that man loved his son. There is no greater love than this. Look how the parent suffered. He smashed his own skull with a baseball bat." And should we then say to the child, "Look how dirty and vile you are that your disobedience has caused your father to hate you so much that the only way he could love you was to hurt himself?" I don’t think there is anyone in their right mind who would suggest that such a scenario was healthy or wholesome or representative of what true love is all about.

And one other question…should we really be moved by the suffering of a man who, if god, would have had the power to suspend all physical pain? Why should we feel moved to gratitude that Jesus killed himself so that he can love us? And why should we be sympathetic to the 24 hours of suffering of a man who, if god, stands by impotently while children suffer ungodly torments for days on end?

Is hurting oneself so that you can love and accept the imperfect beings that you created really an act of love or is it an act of perversity?

Very VERY well said, Thank you.

It is an act of perversity.

| Feb 06, 2010

it do not make sense to me also . Worshiping pain and encourage people to allowed abuse and suffering. In order for you to suffer somebody must abuse you . So how can that be right.
So by suffering you allowed others to abuse you ,and you are hoping that Gods insurance will cover for all that and reimburse you .
Zita | Feb 06, 2010

I personally do not agree with the notion that Yeshua/Isa Masih/Yuz Asaph was a suffering savior. He said he was the way, the truth, and the light, but so is the way of an enlightened one. I see him as a teacher.I do not believe that he died in Jerusalem on the cross, but in India at an old age. I believe he has been an inspiration in a good many religions and philosophies. I do not believe a god who is just would allow such atrocities to one he or she held dear.

Would you agree, Its a thin line between love and hate?

There is a thin line between romantic love and hate absolutely, but unconditional love has no equal or antithesis. Romantic love and hate are emotions of desire and they can interchange with the blink of an eye depending on the situation and people involved. That’s why I value compassion more than romantic love. I do value romantic love very much, but compassion is the emotion that allows people to love unconditionally. The agape love spoken of in the New Testament bible.

Romantic love is conditional: You love me and stay faithful. I do the same for you. Screw up and feel my wrath, anger, and hate.

So my answer is yes and no to this question. Depending on whether the love is conditional or not.

1 atom thick at most.

EDIT- With love, real love, you have 100% of your emotions invested. You’re heart, soul and sense of self. If you loose all that, everything, at once, it’s very easy to find hate.

if you were talking to a mole, then your argument about size would be valid, but since people are usually talking to other people when making that statement, a molehill is still tiny. Mountains are defined as "a landmass that projects conspicuously above its surroundings and is higher than a hill" (from www.m-w.com); therefore, molehills aren’t just small moutains, they’re little hills.

There is no such thing as a tiny mountain. There is a height requirement in order to be called a mountain, otherwise its a hill.

It would only be considered a mountain if the mole hill was located in the forest where the tree fell that no one was around to hear.
