Just Curious Survey: With respect to the saying "making a mountain out a molehill" …?
… wouldn’t a molehill be considered a moutain, albeit a tiny one.
But for the moles, it would probably seem pretty big.
Mountain-ish.
And why do moles care about mountains anyway?
We thought the were burrowers, not mountaineers.
What’s your take?
.
What about………..making a quad laser out of a laser pointer?
Does that explain it better to you!?

I always thoght the saying was "Make a ountain out of an ant hill." That makes more sense to me. But good point! Have a star.

you think too much into things. Old saying are old sayings… many of them don’t make sense.

One witty person must have said it to someone who was respected enough to be listened to. Then they started saying it and, before they knew it, the whole kingdom was saying it

Making a mountain out of a molehill is not big and not clever.

I always thought that statement had something to do about girls hitting puberty or something…
David W | Apr 08, 2008
um well one would normally not be talking to a mole so for a human it completely makes sense…………………………. unless you like talking to moles………… totally normal………….

I think the context of the expression is very obvious, and clearly suggests that someone is making a situation seem much larger or worse than it really is.
I think your efforts in the expansion of the concept could be put to better and more productive use

I think you’re making a molehill out of an anthill.
Aurelius | Apr 08, 2008
Probably to the moles it would seem like a mountain, but yeah I’m not really sure.
neopets | Apr 08, 2008
if you were talking to a mole, then your argument about size would be valid, but since people are usually talking to other people when making that statement, a molehill is still tiny. Mountains are defined as "a landmass that projects conspicuously above its surroundings and is higher than a hill" (from www.m-w.com); therefore, molehills aren’t just small moutains, they’re little hills.

yeah i thought they dug into the ground.
what’s a molehill? is it the pile of dirt from when they dig?
shouldn’t it be anthill? I mean, ants make hills.
oh i guess they want it molehill for the alliteration value.
alliteration advantage. verbal value. word w…oohoo?
so – ? – fishy | Apr 08, 2008
There is no such thing as a tiny mountain. There is a height requirement in order to be called a mountain, otherwise its a hill.
FastEddie | Apr 08, 2008
It would only be considered a mountain if the mole hill was located in the forest where the tree fell that no one was around to hear.
And yes, it still made a noise. Nice one, man!

What are you smoking right now?
And do you wanna share?
A "mole hill" would be the equivalent to the Himalayas to an ant.
My profound thought for the day!

I think you’re a very clever thinker; your curiosity should take you a long way. Just don’t stick your nose in a molehill.

Mom tried to put molasses on my oat meal freakin gross man, why would I want their a*sses in my food.
AKBOY | Apr 08, 2008
The expression is for humans, not moles ,so it wouldn’t make sense to reverse the mole hole and the mountain.
LGirl | Apr 08, 2008
Moles care a great deal about mountains. You would too if that was your habitat.
